1. Haw Par Villa was built by a Burmese philanthropist and Chinese entrepreneur for his brother Boon Par back in 1937. They are the ones who continue to market the household brand Tiger Balm oil invented by their father Aw Chu Kin who named his sons Boon Leng (Dragon), Boon Haw (Tiger) and Boon Par (Leopard).
2. At a cost of US 1.5 million, Boon Haw bought the land along Pasir Panjang road to build the Haw Par Villa in 1937. This park is filled with Chinese traditions and more tha a thousand statues of deities, Buddha, legendary figures and also the illustration of Ten Courts of Hell.
3. After the brothers died, the Haw Par Villa was taken over by Singapore Tourism Board and underwent revamp in 1988. Since 2001, people can enter the park for free however there are not many visitors. A pity indeed as it is a culturally rich park to understand the Chinese religion and culture.
